Your newsroom default settings
Below you'll find our video tutorial on how to set up your newsroom
To get started click on the top right Newsroom tab
Click here to see what your newsroom looks like to visitors.
Under the Newsroom tab > Newsroom settings, you build up the foundation of your newsroom. You can change the appearance and default functionality of your newsroom by changing the settings.
Name Your company name, which will appear on the front page of your newsroom.
Headline A short description of your company / organization.
Company Description This is where you insert the description of your company, this will be visible at the bottom of your newsroom.
Logo Upload a high-resolution company logo here.
Links Here you can add all of your external links that you want to appear in your newsroom (up to 12 links). Please ensure the links are relevant- back to your homepage, to specific pages within your website or to sister companies.
Boilerplate This is a brief description of your company's activities, which will be your company’s default "signature" when sending out press releases.
Comments Here you can set whether to allow your visitors to comment on what you have published in your newsroom.
Newsroom URL This is where you can change the URL (address) to your newsroom. Changing the URL will result in having to change all previous external links that were directed to your newsroom.
License Here you can set the settings related to the copyrights of images, videos, and documents. If you hover over the question mark, it will clarify the meaning of each setting you choose.
Company Details Here you can insert your company’s address, which will be visible at the bottom of your newsroom.
Language Here you are able to set the language of the interface.
Custom Tracking If you use Google analytics, you can enter your profile ID here.
You can find your Google Analytics profile ID on the homepage of your Google Analytics account. The profile ID is listed between parentheses, next to the profile name. We do not support Google's Universal Analytics.
Categorization Here you can set all the categories that are applicable to your business. An example would be categorizing your business under "Food & Beverage". Please note that you can also edit these categories for each individual piece of content (see 2.1. Press Releases > Categorization).
By selecting a category, people who have subscribed to that particular category will receive e-mail updates when you publish content in your newsroom. Please note that you are able to select up to ten different categories and these categories will be set as the default categories. You will also be able to add/delete these categories when publishing.
Do keep in mind that some people base their subscriptions on subcategories. This is why you should also categorize your newsroom or content with subcategories. For example, by selecting a subcategory “Beverage”, you will be reaching out to those who have subscribed to this subcategory as well as the main category “Food & Beverage”.
External sources Here you can add feeds from various social media, which will be visible between your image gallery and contacts in your newsroom (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Flickr, and Instagram). You can also choose to download data from an external source, such as a blog, and view the RSS-feeds.
Twitter requires a username/handle or a hashtag.
Once you've entered the handle or hashtag, you'll notice that the system won't save the @ or # symbols. Don't worry, it still saves the feed correctly.
Facebook requires the link to your company's public page. It won't save if your page is not public!
Youtube requires a username which isn't as intuitive to find right away.
Go to your Youtube channel and look at the URL. The last portion after the final forward slash (/) will show the username.
This sometimes looks like a company name...
Or a combination of numbers and letters...
Copy the full username and paste it into the feed box and hit save.
RSS requires you to click on the website's RSS logo from the website directly (it's usually an orange or blue logo). Once you've done that you can grab the URL from the site you're pulling in a feed from.
Flickr requires you to enter your username also.
Have a go at moving these feeds around so they look good. Generally we recommend that the most visual feeds (instagram, flickr, youtube) go on top and the text based feeds go below.
Remember to press "save" and refresh the page. Please note that new feeds can take a couple of hours to sync, too. Then click on "Go to newsroom" to see what they look like!
Follow-button on your website Being a follower of a newsroom means you will receive notifications for all types of content, live from the newsroom. To encourage follower sign ups you can copy the embed code to other parts of your company's website to generate an additional follow-button.
Want to encourage more followers right away and can't wait for your tech team to include the code on your website? Copy the Subscribe link into your email signatures.
Here's how: take a look at the code- on the first line you'll see a link, like the one highlighted in blue below.
Copy that link and paste it onto a new webpage to view your "Follow" page.
Now that you have that link, use it in your email signatures! Say something like "To stay up to date with our news, subscribe to our newsroom here"
You can also use this link in lots of other places - your website, your newsroom (under "newsroom", "newsroom settings" and "links"), or wherever else you fancy!
Here you can set the default reply-to address for your newsroom. You can also export the contact lists that you have created in the network to the CSV or Excel files.(See 3.0 NETWORK)
Here you can set the social media channels you want to be able to publish your content through, e.g. Facebook and Twitter. Please note that you must have administration privileges for respective channels in order to activate them. You can choose either to have the channels displayed as default or if you want to select the channel each time you publish.
Here you can review comments on content you have published in the newsroom (if you choose to allow comments in the newsroom settings).
Highlighted tags
Here you can add the tags that you want to Highlight in your newsroom and select an appropriate image for each one. You can also combine or delete existing tags by selecting them and clicking "combine" or "delete". Simply drag and drop to rearrange your Highlighted tags. Click on the star in the tag list to highlight one of your exiting tags. Click on the cog wheel next to the tag name in order to remove that tag from specific releases.
Have a look at our our video tutorial here:
(More about tags under 2.1. Press Release > Tags).
Here you can choose to have a miniature version of your newsroom integrated as an application on your Facebook page.
The hosted newsroom allows you to place your Mynewsdesk newsroom on your own website without needing high-level programming skills.
You can also set your own design, which will apply to your hosted newsroom. You can do this under the tab “design” next to the “settings” tab under “hosted newsroom”.
Get the most out of your Hosted newsroom by publishing and indexing all your material on your own domain. Set up a subdomain with your domain provider and get that pointed to www.mynewsdesk.com. Add your new subdomain to the field below.
This option allows you to embed your newsroom on your own website and customise its design fully to match your company’s graphic profile; i.e. your hosted newsroom will look like it’s fully integrated with your own website. We highly recommend that you also create your own subdomain, as noted above, so that your published material is indexed on your own domain.
For a more detailed explanation of how to host your newsroom, please surf your way to the "Hosting your newsroom" page.
