915 drivers
Loft options - 7.5°, 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5°, 12°
Adjustability - The SureFit Tour Hosel allows for 16 loft and lie combinations to tailor the ball flight.
Key technology - A wide channel in the sole of the driver (called the Active Recoil Channel) offers more distance by actively flexing at impact to launch the ball off the face with higher speed and lower spin. The face insert is thicker in the centre and thinner in the heel and toe areas to provide more distance on off-centre strikes.
Test Report – Neil Tappin
The 915 drivers are two of the best models for 2015. While we have criticised the SureFit Tour Hosel for being more complicated than most, when used by a knowledgeable fitter (which Titleist always recommends), these two heads can be set up to suit the needs of almost any golfer. They’re undoubtedly the most forgiving that Titleist has produced, and certainly aren’t just for better players. I was able to drop down a degree of loft compared to the 913, to bring spin down without sacrificing the launch I was looking for. This resulted in impressive added distance.
Loft Options - 7.5°, 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5°
Key technology - The 915D3 driver has a 440cc head, compared to the 460cc 915D2 model. The pear-shaped profile is combined with a deep face and produces a lower flight and less spin than the 915D2 head. The Active Recoil Channel again helps to improve distance. Weight is strategically placed in the back of the head for a low and deep centre of gravity position for added forgiveness.
It’s rare to see a major brand offer two models with the same technology, adjustability and at the same price point, but with different performance characteristics. This allows you to make your choice between the two based on the flight on offer and the look behind the ball. The 915D3 is stunning, but the D2 is more confidence inspiring at address. With the adjustability on offer, it’s likely that an expert fitter will be able to find settings that work for you in both models, so personal preference will be the deciding factor. The impact sound is one of the best on the market.
