Speed 10 drivers
Loft options - 14°
Adjustability - Benross Hosel Adaptor allows the face angle to be adjusted from square to 1°, 2° or 3° closed and 1° or 2° open
Key technology - The new MAX Speed 10 driver is designed to be the most forgiving in the 2015 Benross driver family. It features a sole weight that is positioned at the back of the maximum-width head. This is to help golfers who have a slower than average swing speed to help them get the ball higher in the air without any additional force.
Test Report – Paul O’Hagan
One of the great things about Benross drivers is that they offer very different performance characteristics. The flight and spin rates of the brand’s models vary greatly. As you would hope, the high-lofted MAX version flew higher with more spin than any other model. This makes it a great choice for players with slower than average swing speeds who need help to get the ball up in the air. The forgiveness and impact sound are much improved. Given the performance, adjustability and price, anyone struggling off the tee due to a low ball flight should test this model immediately.
Loft options - 12°
Key technology - This is the mid-width head and mid-centre of gravity position model, and is designed to offer a mid flight and spin. All of the shafts in the Speed 10 driver range are interchangeable so that the head and shaft can be matched to individual needs. The Pod sole design allows weight placement to be controlled.
The visual appeal of Benross drivers has improved dramatically in recent years and the HOT Speed will attract the eye of many. It has a smart appearance without looking as intimidating as the RIP Speed 10. All three models look very different behind the ball but the finish is equally as impressive. The HOT Speed 10 launched higher than the HOT Speed 2 model from last year, which will mean those who were suited to the MAX head previously will now also have the choice of this head combined with the right shaft option. The sound at impact is solid and the forgiveness on offer is excellent.
Loft options - 10°
Key technology - The centre of gravity position is nearer the face of the RIP Speed 10 compared to the other two Speed 10 models. This is to reduce spin and increase carry distance for those with faster-than-average swing speeds. The Honeycomb Crown Structure and Pod sole design should both help to improve the overall performance on offer.
As mentioned earlier, the performance of the three Benross Speed 10 drivers are very different. I found the spin rate and flight on offer here to be noticeably low. I sit right between the RIP and HOT models, but the beauty of the new family is that you can opt for one of the other two shafts. The RIP Speed 10 head with the Aldila ATX Tour Red 65 shaft offered me an excellent combination of forgiveness and consistency. This is the best-looking driver head in the Benross family, but the compact nature of the design is undoubtedly suited to confident drivers.
