Your Twitter experience starts with creating an account. Go to twitter.com and sign up. The lower box on the right side of your screen has fields for your full name, email address, and password.
One you enter that information, you’ll be taken to a screen to fill out the rest of your account’s details. This includes choosing your username. That’s an important step, because it’s how your industry and your customers will see your brand
Generally, the best practice is to use the shortest form of the name of your business or brand. Twitter messages are only 140 characters long, and your entire username goes in the message when somebody tweets at you, so you don’t want the handle to take up too much space. You also want the username to be simple enough that people will remember it, so avoid extra strings of numbers or letters.
Once you’ve completed this stage, you'll be taken through several sections:
The first is to gauge your interests; Twitter will give you a generic list of topics which you can select.
The second is to generate a list of people you might be interested in following, which will consist of famous people and influencers.
The third is to add a photo, which we recommend to be your school's logo to make your profile instantly identifiable. Finally, the last stage is the ability to find your contacts on Twitter through your email. You opt to skip this if you do not want Twitter to email your contacts.
You'll be transported to your Twitter page once you have completed all that information, but before you can begin to customise your page with header images and a bio, you will need to confirm your account. An email will be sent to your registered email address, with a link within it. Once you click that link you are set to go.
Once you have confirmed your email address, you'll be taken to your Twitter homepage where you have the ability to customise it.
You should then click on your Twitter handle (name) on the left-hand side of the screen beneath your logo, and you'll be transported to a new page where you can edit.
Click the 'edit profile' button on the right-hand side of the screen. Here you can add in key information about your school such as your website URL, Bio and a header image.
Now that you're all set up, the last thing that remains is to send your first tweet!
Twitter offers 2 options in the centre of the page or alternatively you can craft your own personalised tweet underneath.
